Manchester homes, and how they fail
City centre apartments
Mill conversions in Ancoats and the Northern Quarter and the towers around Deansgate are often all-electric: panel heaters, a hot water cylinder and an RCBO board in a hallway cupboard. When one flat goes dark it is usually a single tripped device or a failed immersion, but if the whole floor is off, the fault is in the landlord’s supply and we tell you who to call.
Student houses and HMOs
Fallowfield, Withington and Rusholme are full of shared houses where five people run heaters, gaming PCs and hair tools off a board designed for one family. Overloaded extension leads, scorched sockets and RCDs tripping at 2am are routine. Landlords get a written report the next morning.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Levenshulme, Longsight, Chorlton and Gorton are rows of 1900s terraces, many rewired in the 1970s or 80s and never looked at since. Old rewireable fuse boxes, missing earths on lighting circuits and tired sockets behind furniture are what we find most often.
Getting to you across the city
From South Manchester we are straight onto the A6 and Hyde Road for the centre and east Manchester, and the A34 or Princess Road for Didsbury, Northenden and Wythenshawe. North Manchester, Blackley and Prestwich are the longest runs inside the city because they mean crossing the centre, which is why they sit in the 25–40 minute band at night. For city centre flats, tell us the building name, the entrance and whether there is a concierge or a fob. It saves more time than any shortcut.

How fast can you get to central Manchester at night?
Usually 15 to 25 minutes to M1, M2 and M4, a little longer for Castlefield and Spinningfields. At rush hour allow 25 to 35. The electrician who answers gives you a real time for your address before anyone sets off.
The whole floor of my apartment block has lost power. Is that you or the building?
If every flat on the floor is off, the fault is almost always in the landlord’s or building’s supply, which the managing agent has to deal with. If it is just your flat, it is inside your installation and we can fix it. Call us and we will help you work out which in a couple of minutes.
Do you cover Wythenshawe, Baguley and the airport?
Yes. M22, M23 and M90 are 25 to 35 minutes away at night via the A34 and Princess Road, and we attend hotels, units and offices around the airport as well as homes.
Do you charge more for city centre callouts?
No. The call-out fee is confirmed on the phone before we set off, whatever the postcode. Mention parking and building access when you call and we reach you faster.
I rent a room in a shared house and the power keeps tripping. Can I call you directly?
Yes. Tell us the landlord or letting agent’s details and we will make the house safe, then send them the report and invoice so you are not left paying for the landlord’s repair.
