Rural homes and TT earthing
Many village and farm properties are not earthed through the supply cable at all. They rely on an earth rod in the ground, known as a TT system. When a rod corrodes or the ground dries out, protection fails or RCDs start tripping for no obvious reason. Testing the earth is one of the first things we do out here.
Outbuildings, stables and garden offices
Long underground cables feed garages, stables, workshops and garden rooms. A spade, a digger or a rodent through that cable will trip the whole property. We isolate it so the house is back on, then find and repair the damaged run.
